Spring changes the blood. But you know what can change too? The decoration of your home. Spring is here and with it comes changes in style and interior design. It’s the perfect time for you to change a few things and readjust your home to this new season now that the cold weather is over.
Spring Trends 2022Biophilic DesignBiophilic design principles connect a space to nature by maximizing natural light and ventilation, introducing plants and nature-inspired colors and materials. “Bridging the indoor space with the outdoors is a smart and simple way to make your home feel bigger, while inviting in the calming energy and natural materials of the outdoors,” says Clotilde Passalacqua, interior design leader at IKEA UK and Ireland. “When updating your interior spaces, look to incorporate rustic, organic and sustainable furnishings that can evoke a sense of tranquility with their nods to nature. “The easiest way to introduce biophilic design into your home is with houseplants. “Now is the perfect time to turn to houseplants,” says Camilla Clarke, creative director at interior design studio Albion Nord. “Give things a twist by re-purposing them to give the rooms in your home a new lease of life. Plants increase oxygen levels and pleasant-smelling flowers can help improve mood and productivity levels.”
Thoughtful organizationWell-thought-out organization isn’t so much about stripping your home of essentials as it is about intentionally laying out your stuff. As Bo Hellberg, marketing director at String Furniture, says: “Clutter-free, well-organized, almost Zen-like living spaces that are “less is more,” with clean, soothing lines. “And with a 700% increase in Google searches for clutter at the end of last year, it looks like 2022 will be the year of the ultimate spring cleaning. “People are rethinking the way they store and organize their stuff. In the last year, the installation of kitchen shelving rose 34%, while the assembly of floating shelves increased 67%, showing us that empty walls can actually serve a useful purpose,” TaskRabbit reports. “We predict that people will continue to make use of their space in new ways as our personal and professional lives become even more intertwined. Coffee tables will serve as workstations, storage units and much more. Beds will do the same. And the best part? No clutter.”
Dark trendAn emerging interiors trend made for country homes. Born on social media (dark interiors content has been viewed by 1.7 billion people on TikTok), this trend takes its aesthetic cues from old academic institutions-a romanticized version of English boarding schools, for example-with an emphasis on lots of books, deep nature-inspired colors, William Morris-style wallpaper, vintage and antique treasures, and a touch of English eccentricity.”At the center of this characterful style is literature, inspired by the beautiful libraries of academic institutes,” say the experts at Crafted Beds. “Displaying books, especially aged and bound ones, will add a somewhat cluttered but cultured and well-read look to your living room or bedroom. You can place them haphazardly on bookshelves and windowsills or stack them on coffee tables to achieve the desired effect.”
BarkitectureYou already know the love we have at Aquaclean for pets, but this spring we’re taking it a step further and keeping them in mind when redecorating. This trend is all about creating luxurious spaces for our pets that fit seamlessly with the design choices we make for ourselves. “Our love and appreciation for our pets has only grown over the past couple of years as we’ve spent more time at home. So much so, it’s starting to rub off on our interior design choices,” says Anne Haimes, interior designer and founder of Anne Haimes Interiors. “We are getting more and more requests from our clients to create a home that is livable and functional for all members of the family…including cats and dogs. “For example, in utility rooms, the demand for multifunctional spaces is growing, and built-in dog showers to clean mud off paws and hair after walks are a common feature. They used to be simple outdoor faucets that only worked with cold water. Now, dog owners want deluxe versions, with hot water, flexible shower hoses and tiled backsplashes in keeping with the room’s décor.”
I hope that with these tips you will turn your living room into a place as pleasant and colorful as the flowers that appear everywhere during spring. And remember that tranquility is also being at ease and in harmony with the colors and design of your home.
